"How Do You Sharpen Your Pencils?" asked a reader to Paul Sellers.
He replied that most of his life he used a chisel to sharpen his pencils but he felt the graphite wasn’t good for his chisels and so he uses a crank sharpener now, also for the his students convenience.

I don't think that the mixture of graphite powder that compose pencils mines that crumbles crawling on a sheet of paper can ruin my tools, so when I need to make the tip to my pencils I use the first plane that I find underhand.

Lui ha risposto che la maggior parte della sua vita ha usato uno scalpello per temperare le sue matite anche se sentiva che la grafite non era una cosa buona per i suoi scalpelli e quindi adesso usa un temperamatite a manovella anche per la comodità dei suoi studenti.

Io non credo che la mistura di polvere di grafite di cui sono composte le mine delle matite, che si sgretola strisciando su un foglio di carta, possa rovinare l'affilatura dei miei utensili, pertanto quando ho bisogno di far la punta alle mie matite uso la prima pialla che trovo sottomano.

Tengo l'indice appoggiato sulla punta della matita e poi li tiro entrambi, non troppo velocemente, sulla suola pialla.
So che può sembrare una cosa pericolosa, ma sinceramente io non mi sono mai tagliato neanche una volta in questo modo.
Come dite? Dite che ciò dipende dal fatto che le mie lame non sono ben affilate? ;-p

Beh, io non abito esattamente a Cremona, io sto nelle campagne nei dintorni della città, ma non credo che a nessuno di voi amanti del legno interessi qualcosa del mio paesino, invece probabilmente avrete sentito parlare di Cremona perchè qui hanno vissuto e lavorato i più grandi liutai del Rinascimento come gli Amati, i Guarneri del Gesù e gli Stradivari e tutt'oggi decine di liutai sparsi in città continuano la loro tradizione.

I don't write many posts and the few that I write are not particularly interesting, I know it, but despite this, every new post that I write is being read, in the next 24 hours, by 2-300 persons, plus much more in the following days.

According to statistics, almost all of my visitors are from North America and Europe, but someone also come here from countries where I never hoped to be read.

Most of you readers arrive here thanks to some aggregators and blogroll who undeservedly entered this blog in their lists, as Unplugged Shop, Norse Woodsmith and Old Ladies.

However unfortunately I don't know almost nothing about all of you who read this blog and for once I would like you gift me a few seconds of your time to tell me whatever you want, even just a "hello".
I would appreciate it a lot.


Io non scrivo molti post e quei pochi che scrivo non sono particolarmente interessanti, lo so, ma nonostante ciò, ogni nuovo post che scrivo viene letto, nelle 24 ore successive, da 2/300 persone, più molte altre nei giorni successivi.

Secondo le statistiche, quasi tutti i miei visitatori provengono dal Nord America e dall'Europa, ma qualcuno capita qui anche da nazioni in cui non avrei mai sperato di essere letto.
